Magazine Examples

Here are a few examples of general magazines.
I am putting these together to start to create some ideas in my head.

Magazine Examples

'August - Sean O'Pry'
This example is very sophisticated, the man is wearing a suit and a very smart watch. This example gives me great inspiration for my own cover as it is very basic, but also sophisticated in the way it is created. The white 'August' header contrasts nicely against the metallic grey background and the main article header is very minimalistic. I think I would like my college magazine to be very minimalistic.

'ELLE - David Beckham'
This magazine features one of the most recognizable faces on the planet at the minute. This automatically attracts interest to the magazine because everyone wants to know the latest exclusive on David Beckham. The magazine does not cram as much as it can into the cover. This is because ELLE know that the David Beckham exclusive is enough to attract sales regardless of whether they show all the other stories that are featured.

'GQ - Denzel Washington'
This magazine focuses on the fashion and style culture for men that is now becoming very popular. This edition features Denzel Washington, a very prolific actor, on the front cover dressed in a suit looking very confident and bold. This may be trying to portray the ideology of the magazine, the magazine is a new wave magazine because men were never used to care about their appearance until recent times. many styling products and aftershaves have become more sought after and this is probably down to magazines like GQ which promote the need for men to be clean and well cut.

'Men's Health'
Men's Health is quite like GQ, however it is more informal and focuses more on the fitness and health of men rather than the appearance and looks of men. This edition of Men's Health is very focused on that beach body look that all men's fitness and health magazines focus on during the summer months. This magazine cover has many tag lines that will draw a man to the magazine. it is said that many men will do anything to impress the ladies, and just by looking at the cover of this magazine and its taglines, we can see that that's what its about.

'NME - Liam Gallagher'
This edition of NME is very simple. We can see what the main article is about; Liam Gallagher. This magazine is very minimalistic and natural. The shot used is a close up, this is a good shot for NME to use because when the magazine is on the shelf people will be able to see what the edition is about straight away without having to read any taglines. This magazine only has the text 'Midlife Crisis? My life's a crisis all the time, mate.' This is very humorous and shows the magazine is very informal and not serious.

'NME - Noel Gallagher'
This edition of NME is my favorite, I have taken inspiration from this magazine. I love the pop art style font used and also the colour theme. Noel Gallagher stands out on this cover because he is not matching the colour style. This magazine also has free posters which will attract buyers. The pop art style text is very funky and attracts attention as it is not usually seen on many magazines.
