Coventions Analysis of a Double Page Spread
The colour scheme will match the scheme of the whole magazine, or at least the contents page and front cover. This creates flow and a consistent theme throughout the magazine, it gives identity to the edition of the magazine too. In this magazine the colour scheme is matched all the way through, in the top right corner there is an instert with the band name 'Rolo Tomassi' in the corner in a white text with a black backgroud, this is repeated in the text just under the title.
The font used in the title is a highly designed font, its not just arial or times new roman, it has been constructed to compliment the image and article, it is also in capitals, this makes the text seem bigger and bolder, meaning it will stand out to the reader more. The capital text is used throughout the double page spread, this makes it stand out and appear easier than the article text itself.
The main image will again match the main image on the front cover, this is a visual symbolism of what the article is about, it will usually take up most or a full page. It is there to associate the article with the audience. The main image will be from the same shoot as the front cover image, during a professional photoshoot the photogropher will take many photos, maybe 100, and then choose the photos used in the magazine from the shoot.
The main article is what the reader is really interested in, they are interested in the pictures but usually the main interest is to read about their favoured artist or band, and this is done by the magazine featuring a main article.
The drop cap, this is used to show the reader where the article starts, its easier to look out for a drop cap than just black text as the page is usually busy and there are lots going on. There are headers and drop caps at the start of every new part of the article, this creates flow and consisitency as the reader can see where the article starts, it is also used for navigation. For example in this magazine the header on part of the article is 'To Date', this allows the reader to easily understand that this is going to show what the band has done so far in its career.
